Austin Voices for Education and Youth is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the Business Intern for the Spring 08 semester (Jan. 08 – Jun. 08). The internship is designed for a person interested in learning the business side to a nonprofit agency. The intern will be introduced to nonprofit management by learning cost allocation planning, strategic plan development, assisting with accounting work, developing monitoring tools as well as administrative support. Duties will vary from week to week, but all aspects of operating a nonprofit will be covered, including:

General Organization / Filing Duties
Phone Reception Duties
Check Processing Duties
Ordering Office Supplies
Mailing Duties
Board Meeting Materials Preparation
Board / Committee Meeting Minutes
Strategic Planning
Budget Development / Monitoring
Fundraising / Development Assistance
Human Resources Duties
Website Maintenance Duties

Required Qualifications
• BA or coursework towards completing a BA degree from accredited institution (preferred) or equivalent professional experience in the areas of business, social work, youth services, community development, and/or education.
• 2 or more years relevant work experience
• Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to work with diverse group of people in the community
• Experience working with youth, in a youth setting, or on youth issues
• Experience using computers


Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of issues related to youth empowerment, business management, and/or nonprofit management
• Experience working in professional office setting
