Youth Consulting Opportunity

Logistics
Specific hours needed to be available to work
You must be available to arrange and attend various meetings to take photographs, video tape, etc.

You will need to arrange your own transportation to meetings and events, and arrange childcare, if needed. Austin Voices staff will be happy to help you strategize about these logistics, but you will ultimately be responsible for making these arrangements.

The Project
Austin Voices seeks a documentarian to assist the organization with the following duties:

• Attend and document (photo/video) various organizational events
• Ensure photo release forms are obtained from participants
• Contribute to monthly Austin Voices and Youth Action Network newsletters
• Ensure video/camera equipment is maintained and ready for use
• Organize photographs & video clips
• Perform data entry
• Perform periodic website updates with new photos & video clips

Skills you would need
• Experience as a student in a high school
• Ability and desire to gather and capture photos/videos of students
• Desire to learn
• Organization and conceptualization skills
• Desire to set deadlines and manage a project

Skills you would learn
• Strong knowledge of local education and youth issues
• Enhanced project management skills
• Research, analysis, and organizational skills
• Networking
• Website management skills
• Knowledge of stock footage, history and historical imagery and the ability to conceptualize footage requests
• Knowledge of database systems, imaging and editing programs
• General office administrative skills, such as handling phone calls, ordering supplies, maintaining office equipment, file organization and order processing.

Your responsibilities as a consultant (you must deliver on ALL of these)
• Excellent time/schedule management
• Attend supervision meetings
• Attend two weekly Youth Action meetings at Garza
• Attend monthly AVEY all-staff meetings
• If possible- attend weekly staff check in meetings

Maximum amount of money available for stipend 8 hours per week at $8-$9 depending on experience for 21 weeks—approximately $1,344 - $1,512.

Pay schedule
You will be paid every two weeks and you be evaluated on your performance. If you were not able to meet responsibilities for reasons beyond your control, your supervisor will work with you to solve the problem and keep the project on track.

Performance Evaluation
At the end of the project, we will ask you to write a one-page evaluation about how you thought the project went—what went well, what could’ve been better, what you learned, etc. Austin Voices staff will also ask the other committee members to evaluate your performance and whether they would recommend you as a Youth Consultant for a future project.

Failure to Meet Responsibilities:
If you don’t meet your responsibilities on this project, it may result in removal from the project. If your supervisor does not recommend you for future projects, you will be ineligible for 6 weeks after which point you can be considered for another Youth Consultant job.
