Software Development Intern

Position Summary:

We're looking for a student with knowledge of TCP/IP networking and good programming skills. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of Linux internals such as device drivers, networking interfaces, network security protocols, and the TCP/IP stack. A familiarity with C programming and object oriented design is required. This job will provide the student with experience and knowledge growth in a wide range of software areas related to networking, security, and driver design.

Job Description:

Work with the software development team in Austin, TX to understand software systems and assist with design of major pieces of new or existing products. This will likely include work on GUI development, TCP/IP stack design, and security modules.
- Read required software documentation to become familiar with the development environment.
- Follow the guidelines of the senior development team member to assist with programming required modules.
- Analyze and interpret test data and try to find the root cause of the issues, and resolve them.
- Develop or use computer software, scripts and routines to facilitate Q/A testing of software modules.
- Other duties may be assigned

This position is part time and requires 15-20 hours per week of work at the SMC Austin Development office between the hours of 8AM and 6PM Monday-Friday. Pay will be based on the knowledge level of the candidate and their ability to contribute in a meaningful way to the team in Austin.

Qualifications:

Along with a desire for experience in the networking industry, the successful candidate will bring with them:

Major: Computer Engineering/Computer Sciences/Electrical Engineering
Relevant Computer Science or Computer Engineering Classes:
- Experience or knowledge of TCP/IP networking protocols especially router/switch functions is highly regarded.
- Working knowledge of Linux.
- C Programming skills, object oriented.
